Erasmus+ “TWO – Teaching With Objects”

Erasmus+ Project “TWO – Teaching With Objects” 2022–2025

The Giovanni Poleni Museum and the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Padua are involved in the Erasmus Plus project “Teaching With Objects,” launched in March 2022. This three-year project, carried out in collaboration with the Dutch Foundation for Academic Heritage, the University of Strasbourg, Humboldt University of Berlin, the University Museum of Ghent, and the company Things That Talk, aims to explore the potential of historical objects to enrich university teaching.

The objects preserved in museums and academic archives, such as those of the Giovanni Poleni Museum, offer a unique opportunity to make learning more engaging and exciting. Surprise, wonder, and curiosity are emotions that students can experience through direct interaction with these artifacts, fostering deeper and more meaningful learning. Object-based teaching allows for concretely connecting the past with the present, illuminating the historical role of universities in society.

The project aims to promote innovative teaching practices, based on the use of historical objects, improving existing tools and methodologies. A particular focus is placed on digital and hybrid teaching contexts, with the goal of creating an online platform to make these resources accessible to teachers, students, and researchers. Additionally, the project aims to build an international network of professionals engaged in teaching with objects, opening a continuous discussion on the opportunities and challenges of this practice in the digital age.
